Thailand, the land of the ever-smiling people, beaches and tropical rain-forests, is also one of contrasts: in order to explore this land with his camera - a land that infatuates through landscapes of beauty and variety, and whose respect for the past ties in with an unbroken enthusiasm for modernity - the photographer Roy von Elbberg travelled three weeks all over the central- and northern provinces as well as to the island Koh Samui in January 2010.
Buddhist temples and sculptures that have survived thousands of years meet the shimmering skyline of Bangkok. Historic cities, which have been declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites, are set right beside newly constructed holiday resorts. The remote and difficult to reach villages of the northern hill tribes contrast heavily with the pulsating life in the strongholds of tourism.
The renowned and internationally experienced fashion-, commercial-, and travel photographer Roy von Elbberg approaches his objects from a remarkable perspective: with an expert’s eye he captures the unique characteristics of this South-East Asian country, its people and culture. Greening paddy fields, fascinating riverscapes and swirling metropolises – the photographies of “Impressions of Thailand” open up a land full of extremes. They show a cultural and topographic variety tied to a heritage that has survived in spite of growing global influences.
Roy von Elbberg’s works were taken with high-contrast HDR-technology. They encompass a fascinating spectrum and impress through quality and their very own artistic aesthetics.
